Asia-Pacific Strategic Investments Limited (APS), a real estate developer listed on the Singapore Exchange, announced its plan to acquire a full stake in Mobii Genius Co., Ltd., a Taiwanese provider of sustainable data solutions.
The $150 million deal marks APS’s strategic pivot from its traditional focus on hospitality and elderly care to developing zero-carbon data centers across Southeast Asia.
This acquisition comes at a crucial time as Southeast Asia, the world’s fastest-growing internet economy, is expected to generate 20 million tonnes of carbon emissions from its digital sector by 2030.
The shift toward sustainable data infrastructure aims to reduce the environmental impact of data centers, which demand significant water and land resources.
Dato’ Dr. Choo Yeow Ming, CEO of APS, emphasized the importance of green data processing facilities. “Data is now fundamental in various aspects of our lives,” he said.
“This acquisition represents a significant step in revitalizing APS and enhancing shareholder value as we aim to grow sustainably with the tech industry’s climate resilience.”
APS plans to use advanced green technology from Mobii Genius, which specializes in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) solutions for tech companies, to ensure the data centers operate on carbon-neutral computing equipment and AI-driven energy optimization systems.
The upcoming facilities will primarily use renewable energy sources like hydrogen and water, further minimizing their carbon footprint.
Tseng Kuan-Chih, CEO of Mobii Green Energy Co., Ltd., parent company of Mobii Genius, stated, “Our technology is designed to reduce energy waste and enhance efficiency. This acquisition enables us to extend our green solutions more broadly, starting with Southeast Asia.”
The acquisition is expected to be finalized by the end of 2024, with the first data center scheduled to launch in Southeast Asia by 2025.
